Expectations

I want everyone to have fun learning in my class. It's my priority to help you guys learn material in a way that works for YOU. The best way to do that is to make the material easy to relate to through various books, movies, discussions, and numerous other ways.

1984- George Orwell

Set in a dystopia, the basic freedoms of individualism and free thought are no more. Winston Smith, a secret hater of the new order of the world that is Big Brother, secretly rebels against it, engaging in a relationship with his coworker Julia. Will love win? Or will the constant surveillance of new society get the best of Winston?

Johnny Got His Gun- Dalton Trumbo

An anti-war novel written in 1938, author Dalton Trumbo expresses his views on war through protagonist Joe Bonham, a victim of an explosion in trench warfare. As he lies in his hospital bed Joe slowly realizes that his life as he knew it is over; no more legs, no more arms, no more sight, no more hearing. And only Uncle Sam is to blame.

The Road- Cormac McCarthy

The world is over. A post-apocalyptic lifestyle isn't anything close to easy for a father and his son; battling starvation, the cold weather and even colder people, survival is all that matters now.

Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game

Succeeding with small budget in sports is never an easy task. Go inside the journey of Oakland A's General Manager, Billy Beane and  learn what it took for him to make his team competitive, overcoming a lack of money. 

 

  

The 5th Wave- Rick Yancey

It finally happened. Aliens made it to Earth. Nobody said they were going to take over the planet, though. Follow Cassie Sullivan on her journey to survive from the extraterrestrial threat that has already put a giant dent in the human population. 

 

Fahrenheit 451- Ray Bradbury

Firemen don't stop fires anymore, they start them. In a world where literature is outlawed and burned on sight (by firemen) people don't independently learn anymore. Instead, they all get the same information from TV. Guy Montag, a fireman himself, sees what's wrong with ridding people of literature as he pursues preservation of literary works
